Pneumonia in domestic rabbits

Pneumonia is characterized by a "rattle"
sound in the lungs, which sounds like the
rabbit is gurgling water in its respiratory
system.

Other symptoms include:
Sneezing
Blue lips
Snot
Coughing
Lethargy
Mouth breathing
Fever
Matted paws

This rabbit was a "transport". He was
pulled out of the transport run
because he was rattling.

This is the carrier he was being
transported in, not what he was living in.

Rabbit breeders and transporters often
refuse sick animals to keep the sickness from
spreading and to keep the sick animals from
getting sicker.

As we picked up the carrier with this
rabbit in it, we heard the rattling noise
and decided to leave him at home.

Pneumonia is most commonly caused
by pasteurella, bordetella, or staph
infection of the respiratory system.

It can be treated using Penicillin G
Procaine injectible. If severe, the
respiratory system may be
permanently damaged.
