Once upon a time in a small village nestled between towering mountains, there lived a humble stone cutter named Haruki. Every day, Haruki would go to the mountains to cut stones for the village. Despite his hard work, he often felt dissatisfied with his simple life.
One day, as Haruki was working, he paused to rest in the shade of a large tree. As he lay there, he noticed a wealthy merchant passing by, dressed in fine clothes and riding a magnificent horse. Haruki sighed, thinking how wonderful it would be to be as wealthy and respected as the merchant.
As if hearing his thoughts, a mysterious voice whispered to Haruki, "Your wish is granted. You shall become the merchant." Suddenly, Haruki found himself transformed, wearing luxurious clothes and riding the merchant's horse. He was delighted and enjoyed his newfound wealth and respect.
However, as time passed, Haruki noticed that even the merchant had his troubles, constantly worrying about his business and wealth. One day, he saw a powerful governor passing by, surrounded by guards and admired by everyone. Haruki thought, "Surely, the governor must be the happiest man in the world."
Again, the mysterious voice whispered, "Your wish is granted." Haruki became the governor, wielding power and authority. But soon, he realized that the life of a governor was not as carefree as he had imagined, burdened by responsibilities and political intrigues.
Frustrated, Haruki wished to be the sun, for it seemed that nothing was more powerful than the sun, shining down on everyone equally. His wish was granted, and he became the sun, radiating warmth and light over the world.
However, even as the sun, Haruki discovered that there were things he could not control. The clouds could block his light, and the wind could push the clouds wherever it wished. So he wished to be the wind, thinking it the most powerful force.
As the wind, Haruki was free and unstoppable until he came upon a mighty mountain that stood immovable in his path. No matter how fiercely he blew, the mountain remained unaffected. In awe, Haruki realized that the mountain was truly powerful.
Wishing to be the mountain, Haruki was transformed into a vast and unyielding peak, standing firm against the elements. He felt invincible until one day, he felt a sharp pain and heard the familiar sound of a stone cutter working away at his surface.
It was then that Haruki understood the true power and contentment of being a stone cutter, a man who could shape the world around him with his own hands. He wished to return to his original form, and his wish was granted.
Haruki awoke beneath the same tree, once again a simple stone cutter. With newfound appreciation and gratitude, he returned to his work, content with his life and understanding that true happiness comes from appreciating who we are and what we have.
Moral
The story teaches us to appreciate what we have and understand that happiness comes from within, not from external possessions or power.
