Eastern Front, 1916
Deep into the Russian territory, present day Belarus, near the village of Iwacenowicze, Imperial German Landwehr Infantry Regiment number 13 sets camp. This unit will spend the next months in the swamps of Rokitno, experiencing infamous harsh Russian winter. One of the officers of the 1st Battalion, Major Gros, carries a camera with him – and documents the everyday life of Kaisers soldiers.
His photo album, titled “In den Rokitonsumpfen 1916 / 1917” has been reprinted in small quantities during, or just after the Great War. Since one of them is a part of my collection, I decided to upload every photo – exactly 118. Since these photos are now public domain images, feel free to screenshot and use any photo You like.
