This webinar provides an overview of the Department for Education’s new Generative AI: product safety standards, helping ANME members understand what the standards are, why they have been introduced, and what they are intended to achieve in educational settings.
The session will explain the types of generative AI products and use cases covered by the standards - from learner-facing tools such as chatbots, tutoring systems and writing aids, through to teacher and administrative tools - and will outline the key themes schools and colleges should consider when evaluating products for use.
These include filtering, monitoring, and reporting, security, privacy and data protection, intellectual property, governance, design and testing, and the potential impact of AI on cognitive, emotional, and social development, mental health, and manipulation.
The webinar will also explore what schools need to be aware of when making decisions about generative AI services, including product claims, safeguarding expectations, data handling, age-appropriate design, and the importance of understanding how suppliers are addressing safety, accountability and compliance.
Alongside the presentation, there will be dedicated time for questions and answers, giving attendees the opportunity to raise practical queries about the standards and their application in real-world school and trust environments.
