ABOUT THE TUNE AND THE PERFORMANCE:
On October 5 1927 Bix Beiderbecke recorded one of the most important jazz recordings in its history. Royal Garden Blues with his New Orleans Lucky Seven sometimes known as his Gang.
This humorous arrangement of Royal Garden Blues opens with a sound that is reminiscent of a vintage 1950's/60's cops and robbers tv show soundtrack and at the 0:21 second mark shifts to a traditional rendering
of the tunes melody performed by the great 'Sweet Willie Singleton' on trumpet groovin with a plunger....Bob Amato picks up the melody on harmon muted trumpet backed by
the fine tombone work of Mike Genevey playing counter melody supported by a traditional tuba bass line. At the 00:56 mark, Bob Amato lays an obtuse, upside down dixieland style trumpet solo...
At the 1:26 mark Mike Genevey picks up the solo work with a fine dixieland style trombone solo...at the 2:27 mark there there is a brisk uptick in tempo with Bob Amato playing
the melody on trumpet to a transition break at 2:28 when 'Sweet Willie Singleton' plays a very cool but distinctly 'non-dixieland' style trumpet solo which transitions to the entire
quintet banging out the melody driven out chorus under pinned by the kickin tuba work of Neal Tidwell ....Bob Amato on trumpet harmon mute closes with a snippet of the head of "IS THIS REALLY" Royal Garden Blues?

The New Orleans Brass Quintet (NOBQ) was founded by trumpet player, Bob Amato in late 1985.

This 12 tune effort was recorded digitally in a 'natural' accoustic, non-studio setting at the beautiful Long View Gardens Play House in New Orleans. - https://longuevue.com/
This recording was lost over 30 years ago, and was recently located and recovered in November 2018 by Producer- Antonio Garcia.
The MP3 files that comprise this YouTube recording were transferred from an old fashioned 'home style' cassette 'reference' recording that Producer, Antonio Garcia found buried in his closet at home in Virginia. This 'Home Cassette' is the reason that there is background hiss and occasional echo that creeps into some of the sound breaks scored into some of the musical passages of this recording.
This recording effort was essentially a 'glorified' sight reading exercise. Do to professional time constraints and commitments, rehearsal time was limited to 30 minutes per arrangement. Recording time for each of the 12 arrangements was also limited to 30 minutes. One recorded run through, plus an additional 1-3 takes per track. There were three - two hour recording sessions. 4 arrangements were recorded at each of the 3 sessions.
