The Abandoned Bass
The goal was to rescue this bass that had been abandoned for many years, mainly due to the affection with the history that involves a Brazilian brand (founded in 1975), Finch.
I kept some original parts such as the bridge pickup metal frame, the Jack plate, the structure itself...
Unfortunately, I was unable to maintain the appearance of the wood as it was already very scratched, with very deep marks.
The pickup was replaced by another model, as the original had different string spacing measurements than the new bridge.
I used some used parts from another bass by the same ownet who asked me for this transformation (which, below you will understand, made everything even more special in the broader context).
A new scretchplate and truss rod cover were made, the fretboard binding was changed, new frets, nut, tuners and electronics were installed, in addition to all the recording so that we can always remember that, even if it looks like the apocalypse, it is possible to bring back life a piece that has its value both for the person who asked for this transformation and for me who learned from these masters of the past who raised a lot of dust so that the production of musical instruments in Brazil was something respected and accepted by people.
And finally, this entire service was meant to be a gift from father to son. I don't know if you noticed the young musician in this video, which makes me happier to see young people interested in learning music, playing a good instrument... for me its the most satisfying part of this video since I participated in the whole, but watching Luís playing was more than the entire work.
In other words, there is a history of luthiery, there is the reuse of materials full of personal stories, there is a cultural legacy and also this was a super Pauleira experience!
