The Glove is one of Friedrich Schiller's most famous ballads from 1797, the year of his friendly rivalry with Johann Wolfgang von Goethe over the better ballads. The eight-verse ballad deals with the abuse of love.
Johann Christoph Friedrich von Schiller (November 10, 1759 in Marbach am Neckar, Württemberg; May 9, 1805 in Weimar, Saxe-Weimar), ennobled in 1802, was a German poet, philosopher, and historian. He is considered one of the most important German-language playwrights and lyricists.
