Change of direction during movement is a vital quality for many athletes.
Many court and field sports require the ability to quickly change direction during high-speed movement.
For example, during a fast break in basketball, while playing tennis, or as a goalkeeper during a soccer game.
Usually, athletes mainly train their ability to move in the sagittal plane (anterior-posterior).
But today we will talk about how to improve your movement in the frontal plane by using:
Use the Lateral Bound and Stick to improve your:
👉 Jumping - specifically lateral jumping and landing skills.
👉 Reactive skills - improve your reactive strength and muscle control.
👉 Stability - gain more stability in your ankle, knee, and hips.
👉 Coordination - develop enhanced coordination between different muscle groups.
👉 Aerobic fitness - improve your cardiopulmonary fitness.
You can also use this exercise as preparation for plyometrics.
Start by working on your ability to absorb the impact during the landing phase.
Jump from right to left and hold the landing for a full second before bouncing back to the opposite side.
