This GoFundMe is for Stephen Hammer.
At the beginning of 2018, Hammer began to have complications with speaking, terrible headaches, and trouble swallowing. Embarrassed, he hid this from family & friends even after going to the E.R. to find out what was wrong.
After running some tests; CT Scans, taking blood work, doctors sent Hammer home, and referred him to another medical clinic who diagnosed him later in the year with MG - Myasthenia Gravis.
MG is an auto-immune muscle disease that doesn't allow the body to use it's natural muscles. Neurologist, Dr. Williams explained "everyone has Good Cells & Bad Cells. In most people, the good cells fight off the bad cells, however with MG patients, the Bad Cells fight with Bed Cells causing a disturbance in the muscles."
After living with MG, and taking medicine 4x daily, Hammer will be under-going chest surgery in July 2019 to remove the gland that is causing his slurred speech/swallowing problems.
If not removed, it could become a tumor above the heart,, however, it is not that serious right now, and needs to be addressed now before it can become worse. Without medical insurance, all doctor visits, checkups, and upcoming surgery will all be up to Hammer to cover.
