Spike Island Fireworks 17th July 2022
On July 17th 2022 fireworks display lighted up Spike Island and Cork Harbour, as we celebrated our Independence day on the island.
The spectacular display featured 1300 fireworks, one for each convict who was sent to the historic island and sadly never left.

From the Island Monastery and Fortress, to the World's largest Prison in the 1850's and centuries of island homes. Your journey starts with a ferry ride before Ireland's best storytellers take you on a guided tour of the outer island and Fortress. You can then self explore the prison cells, Fortress. Attractions include the 1850's Punishment block with its dark cells, the 1980's prison cells and riot exhibition, Ireland's largest artillery gun park and several penal, military and social history museums.
