Woody Bendle here from Next Level Growth Strategies. This week’s business tip was a bit of a gift to me earlier this week you might say. How’s that? Well, as it turns out, I had a completely different topic planned for this week’s business tip but sometimes in life, whether that be your personal life, or your professional life, you need to be paying attention and embrace the gifts that you are given. And in this case, the gift I received was a valuable topic that a lot of people will be able to benefit from. And you might say that’s my gift to you this week.
How often do each of us in our personal or professional lives receive gifts? Well from my perspective, probably a whole lot more than we realize or acknowledge. Unfortunately though, many of us, just like a couple of those agency partners, aren’t all that good at actually recognizing when we’ve been handed a gift. Gifts come is all sorts of shapes and sizes and are given to us in a lot of different ways. Gifts can be unexpected, gifts can be unwanted, and gifts can sometimes feel like they’re not really gifts. But here’s the thing, gifts are an awful lot about mindset, perspective, and orientation. If you have the right mindset, the right perspective, and the orientation, you will frankly see more and more things as valuable gifts. And one simple trick moving in this direction is by actually asking a couple questions more often.
The first, “How might this be a gift?” And the second, “In what way might we benefit from this?”
If you do this, over time you will see that more and more things in your personal and professional lives are, in fact, valuable gifts. Just like in our example, one marketing vendor provided some value add analysis to help their client, and after determining this gift’s potential value – and not just to themselves by the way, the organization in turn shared this gift with all of their other partners. They did this because they felt this gift has the potential to benefit nearly every single one of this organization’s agency partners and marketing vendors. But some, just can’t see it for what it is. A true gift.
So, let me just encourage you to try to look at more things and more situations as gifts.
Ask yourself more often how something might be a gift or how might you be able benefit from more and more things that you experience, encounter, and receive.
And when you are handed a gift remember: Accept it graciously, Confirm its intent, Cherish it, Ensure that it flourishes, and Pay it forward.
If you begin to do this, and do it more often, you’ll be amazed what this will do for your life, your career, and your organization.
