In this episode of Parents: The First Role Models, our host Naganand is in conversation with a powerful Mother & Daughter duo who are equally passionate about art. Introducing Shilpi Das Chohan & her daughter Shiuli Chohan.
Shilpi is a Personal Voice Coach, Voice Artist, Sound Healing Practitioner and Co-founder of Charista Foundation that promotes lesser known Indian artist, supports the artistic training of underprivileged talents, provides psychological care to the elderly, supports rural artisans and works for a cleaner and greener planet. She has co-produced a social short ‘Poonam’ that highlights the impact of loneliness and lack of companionship in the elderly. The film has bagged 33 national and international awards so far.
Shilpi’s daughter Shiuli is a 16 years young woman, a 10th grader who has set her mind to become a singer and musician. She learns Hindustani Classical as well as the guitar and she years to learn as many musical instruments she can lay her hands on. A voracious reader, she is also a passionate writer. Her writing style in both prose and poem is replete with the usage of many metaphors. She had written a biographical poem in Hindi on the plight of rivers that was voiced by Shilpi and very well received by the listeners. Shiuli is a highly creative person with a strong sense of her talents
Shilpi & Shiuli provide us a sneak-peak of a parent-child relationship which is build on trust, understanding, nurturing, emotions & most importantly the love and affection they share. Of-course there are challenges such as not being on the same page, differences of opinions, arguments, fights..
