Combining Einstein's classical theory of gravitation, general relativity, with the principles of quantum mechanics leads to unexpected results. I will describe some of the emergent surprises and
difficulties in the context of black holes, massive objects in the sky whose true nature remains, from the theoretical point of view, full of mysteries. I will focus on the black hole entropy, and how it can be understood in terms of "holograms".
