For many years, basic income was seen to be a niche political issue with sparse support among major political figures. However, with successes in the Ontario Basic Income Pilot and growth of electoral support across North America galvanized by leaders like Andrew Yang, a case for basic income grew. Through the COVID-19 pandemic, and the federal government’s numerous support programs, the case for basic income has only grown. But is now the time for basic income? And what models of basic income could or could not work for Canada? Join us as we discuss the merits of basic income, its pitfalls, and what we can learn from the supports offered at all levels of government that have helped Canadians through this pandemic.
