In todays Two Minute Tuesday, we discuss the idea that 90% of photography isn't really about photography. I've been looking for a good way to bring this topic up for a bit now. It may be taboo in a few photography circles, but I think the conversation is worth diving into. Photography is much more than the gear we use, or even the compositional techniques we employ within our photography. It is those things, but I would submit thats at the bottom 10% of what an engaging image is all about. The other 90% (for a lack of better metric) is about life, adventure, curiosity, personal history and bias.. etc. It's about the way we see, the way we filter life through the lenses we've either picked up, or have been handed throughout life. This is good news. It adds adventure and sport back into the craft. It rids us from the need of having all the technicals down pat, although having a firm understanding is a solid foundation to build upon.
