In 2020, a FedEx driver in Indiana noticed a boy playing basketball. She noticed the hoop was rusty. She noticed the rim was bent. And she decided to do something about it.
“His enthusiasm for basketball was like none I’d ever seen—the sheer joy on his face made me melt,” she says in a Washington Post interview. She saw him playing basketball often on her rounds, his face glowing with joy.
So, on her day off from holiday deliveries, she went to Target and bought him a brand-new hoop along with a new ball. She spent six hours putting it together, then borrowed a friend’s truck and drove 25 miles to the family’s house. They were out, so she left it there with a note as a surprise.
The boy’s mother said, “When I saw the hoop, I was blown away. I was so humbled that somebody would go out of their way to do such a random act of kindness. I had no idea who Aubrey was, but she made me believe in people again.”
This story about a FedEx driver’s generosity moved many people as it hit the news.
