These videos are produced under a Development Oriented Research (DOR) grant of the AHEAD operation of the Ministry of Education funded by the World Bank, won by the Department of Education, University of Peradeniya.
The overall study titled ‘Mathematics education in the 21st century: Improving teaching and learning in mathematics classrooms at the junior secondary level of Sri Lanka had been implemented in two phases. The current series of videos were based on phase 2 (Collaborative action research phase) of the study where a group of teachers engaged in Classroom-Based Action Research (CBAR) under the guidance of a collaborating university research team. CBAR promotes an inquiry approach to teaching, facilitating improvements in both teacher learning and student learning.
In the videos, teachers briefly explain their CBAR experience and demonstrate one or more strategies that they have used to improve student learning in their mathematics classrooms. Moreover, the teachers reflect on the success or otherwise of their strategy at the end of the lesson. Each video also presents students’ views on their experiences of the lesson.
