The animal kingdom truly is diverse, and it's such a shame that we common people know so little about it. It's also no surprise that researchers are continuously discovering new species every year. Today, we are looking at ten incredible animals you probably haven't seen before in your lifetime. Number will definitely interest you if you like chicken, so stay tuned!
Number 10. The Blue Dragon
When most people think of slugs, they probably think of the ugly yellow and green blobs that plague their gardening patch. These crawly creatures are not exactly the most graceful or captivating creatures. But then, there's the blue dragon sea slug. Blue dragons are part of the nudibranch family, a group of soft-body mollusks more commonly known as sea slugs. Though they look like the left-behind offspring of some alien creatures, these bizarre creatures are 100% Earth-bred. They're not all that different from your average garden snail, just a lot more colorful, but often quite poisonous, so they look but don't touch.
Although they are all quite beautiful, with a wide range of colors and specialized appendages, the blue dragon is the most visually stunning and fascinating by far. When fully extended, it looks like an alien dragon flying through the water on their colorful tendrils, known as cerata. Blue dragons are known to go after much larger creatures, including the notoriously lethal Portuguese Man o' War.
Number 9. Slow loris
They may be shy and slow, but just look at those eyes! We have all seen the cutest videos online; they hold cocktail umbrellas in their tiny hands, they stare at the camera with their massive adorable eyes, and do we need to even mention the tickling? Slow Loris is the closest thing in the animal kingdom to a real-life Furby. You have most probably thought to yourself at least once in your life if only I had a slow loris, I'd never be sad again, and who can blame you on this? They are undeniably cute and are known to be particularly docile. Unfortunately, they are also one of the few mammals on the planet to be toxic. They have a gland on their arm which secretes a venomous substance. When they feel threatened, they lick this gland on the arm to mix the toxin with their saliva to deliver a bite that can result in a fatal anaphylactic shock. Beware, cuteness can hurt.
Number 8. Blobfish
You must be thinking, what in the seven hells is this thing!? Voted the ugliest animal on Earth by the world ugly animals society, blobfish gets its name from its gelatinous flesh, which is slightly less than water. It has a very practical approach as it is able to float above the seafloor without having to swim or apply any energy and the depth at which they are found, if they have muscles or bones, they will get crushed due to the atmospheric pressure, which is very high in the deeper parts of the ocean. But the practicality doesn't make it any less ugly. It looks like an old deflated fat man who has given up on life. Its black eyes and a downturned mouth and nose give it a saddened look. It is weird, gross, and, yes, NOT beautiful. It is an endangered species and is found along the coast of South Africa. If you think this is disgusting, wait till you see the monstrosity I have for you at number 1!
Number 7. The Pink Fairy Armadillo
No, it doesn't have wings or the ability to grant you wishes, but the pink fairy armadillo is quite cute in its own unique way. This particular species of armadillo generally ranges between 90-115 mm in length, excluding its tail, and will weigh less than a pound. Similarly, this is the only armadillo species with its dorsal shell almost completely separate from its body.
This unique animal resides in central Argentina's dry grasslands and sandy plains. This sandy environment works well for the pink fairy armadillo since they are excellent diggers. In fact, they have the ability to completely bury themselves in a matter of seconds if threatened.
The pink fairy armadillo uses their digging abilities to burrow in areas beside large ant colonies. Ants provide a constant food source for this species of armadillo. As well, they may also forage on worms, snails, and plant matter, but ants are their number one choice.
