To make it easier for small animals to approach the water, allowing them to move about camouflaged in the vegetation or simply hide, here's how we did it on one of our ponds:
We created a gentle slope along one edge of the pond.

We still had to find a way to retain the soil and prevent it from sliding.

A tip: the earth slope must be gentle to prevent the animals from slipping or sliding.

First, we only created it on one-third of the pond because aquatic plants are incredibly resilient and grow freely here, so we preferred to limit the surface area to avoid excessive monitoring and maintenance.

Second, since the soil we removed when digging the pond was non-calcareous and not too sandy, we were able to reuse it to fill in the slope.

Third point: in the highest part of the slope, we opted for plants that prefer moist soil because, depending on the season, this area isn't always submerged. For example, Iris ensata.
