It's easy to spot with its gangly build, long hairy legs, bulging eyes, and its curious upside-down position at the water's surface.
It's amazing how easily the backswimmer can swim on its back!
At the surface, it prefers to breathe air rather than absorb dissolved oxygen from the water.
It has small hairs around its abdomen to store air.
This position is ideal for watching and catching anything that moves on the water's surface.
It has highly efficient, bulging eyes. These allow it to spot any insect from the side, front, or back, so it can make a move to capture it. Backswimmers are very useful insects that help regulate mosquito populations.
