A personal take on the life and music of one of the most beloved and iconic Hollywood divas.
Andy Warhol’s silkscreen paintings, the cheeky song for JFK’s birthday, white skirt billowing over a New York City subway grating.
A pin-up dream come true. The foundation of Marilyn the icon was her unique blend of childlike innocence and provocative feminine sexuality. Despite of her in indisputable fame as a “Bombshell” and one of the world’s famous actresses of her time, Marilyn largely contributed to set the standards of the Jazz and Swing golden age. Her breathy brassy voice singing “My Heart belongs to Daddy”, “ I am through with love” or the eternal “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend” are history.
Today, jazz singer and actress Viviana Zarbo, who was always inspired and fascinated by Marilyn, is happy to reinterpret her songs, masterpieces composed by geniuses of the like of Cole Porter and Irving Berlin, in a personal way, devoid of clichés, creating an atmosphere in which some tales about Marilyn’s life, as well as from the singer’s own life, are intertwined, and her role as an artistic model which shaped Viviana’s career is recounted through Marilyn’s songs.
Italian-born but a London resident, singer/performer Viviana Zarbo graduated from the American Musical Theatre Academy of London in 2013, and has since developed an innovative repertoire from the Great American Songbook, re-interpreting the songs by drawing inspiration from great jazz singers such as Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Anita O'Day and Sarah Vaughan. At the same time she also incorporates influences from actresses/singers such as Julie London, Marilyn
Monroe and Judy Garland.
She has recently launched her debut album Take Away on the
prestigious jazz record label 33Jazz Records.
A classy and elegant performer with a sumptuous voice and a winning and fun delivery. A classy and elegant performer with a sumptuous voice and a winning and fun delivery.
As she puts it" with my shows I like to convey my love for jazz and swing, taking audiences back to the 1940s and 1950s, from the streets of Harlem to the movie studios of California"
“Charming and…with a true passion for storytelling, Viviana Zarbo very much knows how to hold an audience…definitely the real deal.." thejazz.co.uk
