Collecting scrap for the Company feels like community service
Lethal Company is a game about collecting scrap from various extremely hostile alien environments. Personally, I do not understand why a company would invest in the fuel for an entire spaceship and the necessary equipment just to reclaim items such as the fabled trash can lid, a hornet's nest, or a dustpan. What kind of dystopian world do these characters live in where it’s more practical to send a group of scrappers to deadly locations to retrieve seemingly worthless objects than to simply manufacture new ones?
Perhaps it's a commentary on recycling and how we treat our planet—how, as a society, we are quick to discard perfectly functional items in favor of buying a new gadget every year, even when the old one still works just fine. Does this game carry a deeper message about climate change and wastefulness? In the grand scheme of things, what’s one human life when weighed against environmental destruction? How many employees have perished trying to reclaim forgotten machines?
These are the questions that, quite frankly, nobody has asked themselves while playing Lethal Company.
