Beyond Basic Charts: Tableau Tutorial for a Modern Sales Tab
This Sales tab is the second in a 3-part Tableau dashboard series, designed to provide interactive sales analysis with a modern and user-friendly design. The highlight of this dashboard is a Tableau interactive date picker, enabling users to select time periods (e.g., day, month, or quarter) and view dynamic period ranges (e.g., the last 12 months). Users can then drill down into a specific period, such as September 2024, to explore sales trends like daily performance. The responsive date picker buttons dynamically change color based on user selections, offering an intuitive and seamless way to filter data.
Category-level sales are displayed using KPI cards that show values, their percentage of total sales, and category trends. Segment sales are visualized with a donut chart, where the central space is utilized for a legend, creating a clean and efficient design. For location analysis, progress bars represent the portion of sales from the top 5 locations, dynamically filtered and sorted by performance. A complementary map highlights the top 5 countries, and I’ll show how to add custom pins to a Tableau map to emphasize key locations visually. Lastly, an annotation feature in Tableau demonstrates how to extract and display dynamic values, such as $X in sales for a specific country, directly in an annotation box.
