Jiu Er, a dance in the Yangge style originating from Northern China, is set to a song from the 2014 Chinese television series, Red Sorghum (which was adapted from a novel of the same name). Jiu Er is the strong-willed female protagonist of the story, who works in a sorghum liquor distillery during the Second Sino-Japanese War.
