DOOM v1.1 Registered DEMO1
Released December 16, 1993, this is the first in-game demo from the first available Registered version of the game. Random trivia time: there are actually two 1.1 versions. This one, with an .exe dated 16-12-93, and one with an .exe dated 15-12-93, which was sent to Australian shareware retailer Mannacom and ended up on Aussie shelves. (The reason for the difference? id tried to upload the shareware 1.1 on the 15th but couldn't actually get onto the public ftp server!) I'm 99% sure there's no differences in the ingame demos between the two versions, but there aren't any upgrade or downgrade patches to the Aussie 1.1 so there's no way to check now.
This is a good demo for demonstrating the more vivid color palette of the second episode, and E2M4 is definitely one of the more baroque and atmospheric levels. With the faint dissonant organ of the music and the hanging Baron pictures the impression is of an hellish cathedral, and the tension builds very well to the shock reveal of the first Baron.
Plus Romero uses a crusher twice to gib enemies...
