For those who don't know me, my name is Saito. I’m Japanese living in Japan. I’ve been learning English through immersion (AJATT / MIA / Migaku / Refold) since October 2019. In the first 24 months of my immersion learning, I had immersed at least 5 hours a day but done no speaking. After passing the 24 months mark, I had been taking 25 minutes online conversation classes every weekday for several months. In those classes, me and the teacher have a random conversation. These days, I don't do any speaking practice since I've been quite busy with my baby boy.
Before starting immersion, I had some occasions that I needed to speak in English where I could only hold extremely basic conversations. I would say my English level was comparable to that of the average Japanese adults who had never actively studied the language - I knew basic grammar and had a passive vocabulary of 5,000 words, but I couldn't talk or comprehend content made for native speakers (e.g. Youtube or Netflix) at all.
