Top 10 Movies About Human Trafficking
In this video, we will show you a top 10 list of movies dealing with the subjects of sex trafficking and rape. While things like slavery are thankfully mostly abolished in the modern day world, at least in the sense that it used to exist, that isn’t to say there aren’t dark practices still going on across the globe when it comes to humans being held and transported against their will. And it's our understanding that this exists, combined with our desire to learn more about it, which has made movies about human trafficking so prominent in our culture.
Needless to say then, the concept of human trafficking is rarely if ever portrayed in a positive light on screen. In fact it’s usually portrayed as one of the worst things a person can be involved in, with it being saved for only the most villainous of villains. And that was certainly the case in movies like 2010’s Rachel Weisz movie The Whistleblower, 2007’s David Cronenberg classic Eastern Promises, or 2008’s audience favorite action flick Taken, each of which take a look at the modern day human trafficking trade taking place in Europe.
Of course, it’s not just Eastern Europe where such things happen though. No, the Americas have plenty of issues with human trafficking too. And this has been explored in depth in the likes of 2004’s David Mamet penned Spartan, 2015’s Mexican drama Las Elegidas, and 2007’s harrowing Trade. And then there are the films which look at what's going on in places like Asia and Oceania, films like the Australian 2007 movie The Jammed, the Nepal based 2014 drama Sold, and the 2014 Indian action thriller Mardaani.
