Bob Newhart has appeared in many great movies and TV shows during his career. In this video, we're going to focus on Newhart's decades long filmography by ranking and exploring his 10 greatest movies.
One of the undeniable comedy heavyweights of the 1960’s and 1970’s, he is perhaps best known today for his television work in both the variety show and sitcom incarnations of The Bob Newhart Show. And there’s a reason for that because his comedic performances in each of these still stand the test of time to this day. But that’s not all he’s remembered for. No, aside from that there’s also his highly memorable appearances in classic movies like Elf, The Rescuers, and Catch-22, the latter of which saw him play the brilliantly named Major Major.
Even in recent years, he was still putting out great work on the small screen in Young Sheldon, the prequel to the hit series The Big Bang Theory. There he was able to make people laugh with the first homed on the stand-up comedy circuit back during his youth. So much was he regarded for his ability to get a giggle out of people in fact, in 2002 he’d be awarded the prestigious Mark Twain Prize for American Humour, an honour which puts him in the same category as Richard Pryor, George Carlin, Steve Martin, and Bill Murray.
But then this was a very well deserved honour for Bob Newhart to have as he was easily one of the best to ever do it when it came to making people laugh. And for that reason, he’ll always have a place in Hollywood history, with generation after generation re-discovering his work and enjoying it afresh.
