Postpartum depression is more common than most people realise and it’s treatable.

In this video, Dr. Sandip Deshpande, Consultant Psychiatrist and Sexologist, explains the difference between postpartum blues and postpartum depression, and why new mothers should never ignore persistent emotional distress after delivery.

While nearly 80% of women experience temporary postpartum blues, about 1 in 5 women may develop postpartum depression, which can include:
feeling persistently low
loss of interest
withdrawal or extreme tiredness
sleep problems
difficulty bonding with the baby

If these symptoms last beyond a few days, professional help is important. Safe medications and counselling are available, and early support can make motherhood healthier and happier.

If you or someone you love is struggling after delivery, seeking help is a sign of strength and not weakness.
