Samaroh is a collaboration between UK folk collective Mishra and Indian vocalist Deepa Nair Rasiya, taking the traditional format of a Hindustani-classical vocal recital as a framework for new instrumental explorations, and developing the scope for accompaniment within traditional Indian vocal music. Together they take distinct raga-based song forms such as tarana, khayal etc, and create arrangements that draw from UK folk and contemporary popular music, using Mishra’s diverse instrumentation.
