Offside rule in football,
The term offside is most often attached to an attacking player who is in a position closer to the opponent's goal than the opposing defender before the ball is fed by his team-mate. Usually, offside is a situation where the position of the soccer player is in the opponent's area when the ball is being passed towards him, whereas there are no other opposing players besides the goalkeeper. The penalty given to a footballer standing offside is a free kick. However, offside does not include techniques with the ball as an attack pattern in soccer.
The following are the offside rules in football which have been stipulated in the Laws of the Game by the International Football Association Board (IFAB): A player is in an offside position when: An attacking player is closer to the goal line than the ball and the last two opposing players. Players are not in an offside position if: Players are in their own area. Players are level with the opponent's second-to-last player. Players are level with the opponent's last two players.
