The video clip for ‘The Streams of Time on Stone Dreams’, which are also the opening lines of Velimir Khlebnikov’s 1908 poem, is composed of more than 4000 AI-generated still images of nature haunted by obscure eclipses and strange phenomena happening in the sky. Furtherset explains: «If suns, nights, eclipses, lakes and trees exist, those here are the images made by an AI-reverie trained to create images from text input».
Each image is generated by a poetic description of a dream-like scene, a fleeting snapshot of a world that doesn’t exist. Step by step, text inputs are used to generate these eerie landscapes, to hold on to elusive memories. Each image is different from the last one, no images are repeated. With no editing applied to the sequence of images, the poem-inspired visual fantasy turns into a feverish flux of images in which a profound sense of estrangement persists, giving way to a rising tension that is rooted in a loss of sense for what is known or has already been seen.
Throughout the video, which is also intended to be presented as an installation, or as a live visual, the viewer can get lost in these ever-changing sets of images, where the differences and repetition of the images create a fragile sense of familiarity with what is seen.
