Store renewable energy
Last year, 2023, Spain produced half of its electricity from renewable sources. At that point, achieving a 100% renewable electricity grid will require more than just renewables. It seems paradoxical, but it isn't.
Many other countries are achieving this through various means. In Spain and Germany, energy storage has significant potential, whether with new pumped-storage hydroelectric plants, lithium-ion batteries, or redox flow batteries.
Furthermore, the next generation of batteries is on the way. They will be more environmentally friendly (without lithium, cobalt, or nickel), less expensive when mass-produced and benefiting from economies of scale, and, above all, they will last much longer.
