Contact Energy's Clyde Hydro Dam - Unit 4 Transformer arrival
A transformer at Clyde is a critical piece of equipment taking the electrical energy output of each generator and transforming it from 15,000 volts to 220,000 volts to be transported on the national grid as efficiently as possible and then delivered to customers all over New Zealand. Clyde Hydro Dam has four operating transformers plus a spare which were all constructed in NZ at the same time as the dam in the 1980’s. This is the replacement for the original Unit 4, manufactured by Hyosung Industries in South Korea and transported via boat and Truck to New Zealand.
