Raúl Alejandro Ocasio Ruiz, better known as Rauw Alejandro, was born on January 10, 1993, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, into a family of artists. His father, Raúl Ocasio, is a guitarist and singer born in Brooklyn, New York, who introduced him to American music heroes: Elvis Presley, James Brown, and Michael Jackson. His mother, María Nelly Ruiz, sang in her husband's orchestra. With this kind of environment at home, it was natural for young Alejandro to develop this love for music.
Did you know that he was already rubbing shoulders with music greats from a young age without even realizing it? The Puerto Rican was a classmate of the talented Anuel AA at Colegio María Auxiliadora in Carolina.
It took the quarantine for the two to decide to collaborate and release one of their biggest hits, “Reloj” (Clock).

Anuel says that “music was a hidden talent” of Rauw's during his school years, and it's true. The Puerto Rican hadn't planned to dedicate himself to the artistic world, but rather to become a professional soccer player. He started practicing the sport at age 7 and emerged as one of the top prospects, earning an athletic scholarship and playing for the Puerto Rican National Team; however, since baseball is the dominant sport on the island, there weren't the resources to develop, and his path ultimately led him to where we know him today.
Not everything in his life was rosy. At age 10, he had to face his parents' divorce, losing contact with his father, Raúl, who decided to return to the United States. Meanwhile, his mother worked three jobs to ensure they had everything they needed. It is this testament to her boundless dedication that the Puerto Rican artist is eternally grateful to.
Fortunately, at 18, his relationship with his father was restored when he decided to visit him in the United States. But this trip also meant being introduced to genres like funk, dancehall, and R&B, which would serve as inspirations in his career.
And how did this young Puerto Rican become a Latin pop idol? The road was anything but easy. He studied finance and was only a few credits short of finishing his degree. He also learned graphic arts. At the same time, music caught his attention, although he didn't start out singing, but rather as a dancer, which led him to meet several artists.
When he finally decided to make a name for himself in the music industry, he began releasing his songs, in the same style as Bad Bunny, that is, on the digital music platform SoundCloud, and things took off. However, to finance those songs, he had to work. He was a cashier, a gardener, a clothing salesman—phew! Countless jobs to achieve his dream.
At that time, his songs were aimed at a hipster audience, not reggaeton fans. Despite this, he released the album "PUNTO DE EQUILIBRIO," which unfortunately didn't achieve the expected reach. He then began collaborating with other artists on the digital platform, and that's how "Toda" with Alex Rose came about on SoundCloud. This song opened doors for him worldwide.

Although the song was a huge success, problems soon arose. Alex Rose took credit for the other's fame, while Rauw Alejandro commented that they all had the same artistic level at that time, so their popularity was due to each other.
