Let's discover a fantastic new and very unique free synth:
Xenos, created by Raphael Radna. It's a synth based on dynamic stochastic synthesis (DSS). There are various types of synthesizers, such as subtractive, wavetable, or frequency modulation synthesizers, as well as those that use multiple synthesis types simultaneously. DSS is a new type of synthesis, built on dynamic stochastic algorithms,
essentially a probability distribution. Xenos is the only synthesizer to use DSS, and that's a great reason, given that it's also
free, to add it to your arsenal! Xenos is also open source. It's a 64-bit VST3 plugin, for both Windows and Mac.
Download and install Xenos from the software's official page.
Let's explore all the interface features together.
The concept of stochasticity refers to randomized patterns,
which, although unpredictable in their outcome, can be guided and contained in their level of randomization.
This plugin was created by Raphael Radna, based on the theories of composer Iannis Xenakis regarding stochasticity applied to music.
It is a 64-voice synth, to which we can also connect a MIDI keyboard. It is divided into three sections: Pitch, Amplitude, and Global.
Both pitch and amplitude have a series of parameters related to stochastic distribution, including secondary parameters.
We also have a variable number of segments per wave cycle.
In the Global section, we have the classic ADSR envelope and the option to define the scale.
Let's also look at how to create presets with changing sounds, useful for different, specific musical genres.

A synthesizer (also abbreviated to synth from the English term synthesizer) is a musical instrument belonging to the electrophone family. It is a device capable of autonomously generating audio signals, under the control of a musician or a sequencer. It is an instrument that can generate imitations of real musical instruments or create sounds and effects that do not exist in nature. Currently, we also find virtual synthesizers (VST, AU, and the RTAS standard launched in 1997), which perform this task entirely at the software level and rely on internal or external sound cards connected to a personal computer.
