Medicare Part B Preventive Services
The first category of services covered under Medicare Part B are known as preventive, also known as preventative services. These are health care services designed specifically to prevent an illness or detect it at an early stage. Essentially, attempting to avoid specific illness, such as the flu, or stop illnesses before they progress.
Cost of Medicare Part B Preventive Services
Luckily, most preventive services have zero cost to Medicare enrollees under Original Medicare. This means that as long as you have Medicare Part A and Part B, you will have no cost-share for preventive services. Essentially, these services are covered at 100% by Original Medicare. However, there is one catch. If you use a doctor or provider who does not accept Medicare Assignment, you may be responsible for an excess charge for these services. Most doctors accept Medicare Assignment, however, and do not have an excess charge, but it something you want to verify beforehand.
What is Considered a Preventive Service?
As mentioned before, these are services designed to prevent illness or detect it at an early stage. These are not services for diagnosing or treating new or existing conditions.
