Indore is surrounded by amazing waterfalls, some of them hidden in the dense forests. River choral, a tributary of Narmada, makes many of those waterfalls while flowing through the mountains and forests before it merges with Narmada near Barwah in Madhya Pradesh (India).
Choral originates from the hills of Janapav which is considered as the birthplace of Hindu God Parshuram.
By the turn of the century, Choral had dried up due to wanton deforestation but the government launched a revival plan and in collaboration with the tribals, revived the river.
Chidiya Bhadak is a step waterfall made by Choral in the forests near Katkut and is very different and unique in structure. It resembles Bhedaghat and marble rocks in Jabalpur which make a famous rift valley. Bhedaghat might be a rift valley waiting to be discovered. The livelihood of the tribals from the nearby village of Barjhar is supported by the abundant fish at this place. The presiding deity of the place is Chidiya baba after whom this place is named. Many youngsters have drowned and died in accidents that occur due to a lack of precaution taken while stepping or bathing in the strong water current.
