New lighting for a listed historic building
More than 50 different types of fish and seafood, mouthwatering cheese and meat specialities and fresh pasta: what used to be tellers’ windows in an old bank are now home to deli counters and chiller cabinets full of culinary delicacies. The property developer PEMA has breathed new life into the counter room in Vienna’s “Haus am Schottentor” following a conversion project that took over three years to plan and complete. The building, which is a protected historic monument and was commissioned by Anselm von Rothschild, was the architectural inspiration for banks across Europe in its time. Today, it is an attractive and convenient supermarket at the heart of the city. The lighting concept from Zumtobel not only presents INTERSPAR Austria’s gourmet products perfectly, but also sheds light on an exciting period in European architectural history.
