Short video of the life cycle of the Jewel Wasp
This video was done for research purposes in an entomology lab, as a side project to the research of possible cures for Alzheimer's patients through the use of Ampulex venom. The female wasps, such as the ones in the video are a rare creature and hard to breed and are thus pampered and given cockroaches to reproduce easily. I intended to better understand the creature through recorded observation of its life cycle.
I understands it may be painful to watch the cockroaches die and be eaten alive, but the beauty of this parasitic creature is that it evolved side by side with the cockroach and the it cannot reproduce without killing cockroaches.
