Our very first Fourteener hike @ America's Mountain, Pikes Peak!
We did this hike early July. It took us a little over 6 hours! This is a spontaneously decision on a Friday night and we decided to go the next morning.
We took our time because we didn't know what to expect, we were ready to head back anytime just incase of bad thunderstorms.
We started at 5 AM, originally our plan was to start at 4AM but it was very windy with a gust of up to 30mph, so we waited for a bit.
Weather was cool at upper 60's when we started at Barr trail and it was mid 80's by the time we get up the summit.
By the time we reached above tree line it was already 10:30, very hot with no shades from the scorching sun, thunderstorms clouds started to form, it was scary. We hustled to get the last few miles done but it was tough, very hard to breath, I got dizzy from clouds covering us on and off, temperature dropped about 10 degrees. My headache was bad from blinding sun and sudden temperature drop.
Airene got a really bad elevation sickness towards the last mile. She's been vomiting and severe headache. She was a trooper though and pushed on through!
Overall, it was a fun experienced, just a little tough towards the end but we were determined to make it to the top.
Glad we have done this before we all get so busy back to work and school.
Glory to God
