Happy fasting, friends. While we're fasting, we'd like to discuss plants that can induce intoxication.
As a vast country, Indonesia is known for its rich plant diversity. This is evident in the many plants used as medicine. We know them as jamu or herbal medicine. Besides physiological treatments, Indonesians also utilize a number of plants to alter consciousness. Some well-known ones include betel nut and datura.
In this episode, Tri Irwanda and Patri Handoyo review several plants that have psychoactive, altered, or intoxicating effects. Knowledge of these properties is readily available, even for plants native to any part of the world, thanks to the internet. Not surprisingly, intoxicating plants native to South America, for example, are now also sold on local e-commerce apps.
