The MPO led by Michael Laus dedicates the concert to the late conductor and founder of the orchestra, Maestro Joseph Sammut. His symphonic poem Sbuħija opens the performance, a tender piece which lives up to its name. Violinists Agnieszka Kuźma and Matteo Colombo are the soloists in one of Mozart’s early concertos reminiscent of the Baroque concerto grosso, Concertone in C Major. Reflective of his inner turmoil, Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4 is a monumental work imbued with pathos and passion.
