Located in Freetown, Sierra Leone, Susan’s Bay is one of the city’s largest informal settlements, home to over 4500 people. Most households and food-based enterprises in this area rely on charcoal for cooking. The burning of firewood and charcoal emits toxic pollutants that can irritate eyes, cause headaches, breathing difficulties, and pose long-term health risks. The ENACT project has been working in Susan’s Bay and its surrounding areas to encourage more residents and small business owners to use clean cookstoves. Hear stories from the residents in this video.
