In 1897 photographer Frank Purcell was at the little Bighorn battlefield memorial for the Decoration day ceremony, a predecessor of memorial day where the graves of the fallen are decorated with flowers.
He took many photographs of the event , when he developed the images days later, to his surprise, he found one of the images of the memorial had been superimposed with a photograph he took of a Crow war dance staged earlier in the day. The warrior in the photograph is named Bloody Knife, a namesake to the Crow scout killed at the battle in 1876.
Frank purcell wrote on the back of the photograph "some red prophet of the long ago invoking the great spirit's vengeance for centuries of wrong."
