Project concluded, but I needed to file off a bit if the edges of the forks so it doesn't dig into the shifter rod.
Now it's definitely easier to downshift into 2nd and to get into first without grinding gears, so goal achieved.
I wanted the shifts to be easier, so I loosened the shift detents on the transmission itself by cutting about 10% off of the spring lengtg inside the 2 main detent holes (10mm allen). Makes it easier to go into and out of gear. I also removed about 25% of the left side transmission counter weight so that my shifts are quicker; I didn't notice any loss in shift quality.
If you are planning on recreating this setup, the templates for the supporting structure should be used as-is to ensure the height of the plate is correct. the plate itself will have a large offset for the gate depth if you didn't modify the shifter cable position as I did in Part 1.
You will want to sand the raised edge on the stock shift rod flush so that it slides into the forks smoothly. For the Cover, you will want to modify the position of the plate relative to the base (back right corner is too high) and then shape the rails to give you a smooth loft.
