Primeval: A Labyrinthodont Tribute
A tribute to Primeval's Labyrinthodont. Labyrinthodonts were generally amphibian-like in build. They were short-legged and mostly large headed, with moderately short to long tails. Many groups, and all the early forms, were large animals. Primitive members of all Labyrinthodont groups were probably true water predators, and various degrees of amphibious, semi-aquatic and semi-terrestrial modes of living arose independently in different groups. Some lineages remained or became fully aquatic with reduced limbs and elongated, eel-like bodies. They appeared in the Devonian and became extinct in the Cretaceous.
Ten years Matt Anderson after being attacked by a Labyrinthodont, an anomaly opened up in a cave neat the small village of Witchfield Cove, letting through a Labyrinthodont which became known as a the Witchfield Worm by the residents. Livestock and the boy who started the superstition went missing. The Labyrinthodont wasn't able to return through the anomaly to its home era because a pair of villagers were pouring diesel down to the cave where it reacted with the substance given out by the anomaly to form the acid which was weakening it. A baby Labyrinthodont remained in the cave (it is unknown if it came through the anomaly or was born in the cave), while the adult terrorised the village.
