Meet Ania, who fulfilled her dream and turned an old barn from 1940 into a modern home for her family! Can a barn converted into a house be comfortable? We see the interiors BEFORE and AFTER the renovation, i.e. the surprising effect of an extreme metamorphosis! The adaptation of a farm building shows that an original design of an energy-efficient house with shutters, a black facade, a designer interior full of surprising solutions and a beautiful garden with old trees can be created from ruins.
After the renovation, the 126 m2 house of the modern barn type is simple, but spacious and surprises with practical ideas! A laundry chute, a window seat with storage compartments, a small pantry hidden in the furniture by the kitchen, or a functional hallway for a family with children are just some of them! The technical condition of the old building, where hay was stored and a small room with a tiled stove was arranged, was poor. That is why only part of the walls could be saved. The roof had to be dismantled and rebuilt. After the reconstruction, the house has a completely new layout, comfortable for a family of four. After the renovation, the ground floor gained a small vestibule, toilet, wardrobe, and an open living room with a kitchen with access to the terrace. In the film, we open additional rooms, i.e. a hidden pantry and utility room, and show how to practically arrange the stairs in a house with children. We also look in detail at the design of a modern kitchen with an island, and a window seat, under which we managed to fit additional storage space.
The attic space was used practically to the maximum, arranging three bedrooms with upholstered bedheads and two bathrooms, including one bathroom with a bathtub and clever custom-made construction, and the other with a laundry chute. An additional advantage is the height of the rooms, the children's rooms are connected by a small mezzanine.
An important point of the house's transformation was the creation of a small house inspired by old barns, which will be appropriately insulated and energy-efficient, and will not overheat in the summer, despite the black facade. Hence, the Shou Sugi Ban fired board from Wood of Fire was installed as a ventilated façade, and the insulation is made of mineral wool.
