Horwin is the brand born from a collaboration between two business groups: the Zhou WEI (China) and Heinzl (Austria) families. Its goal is to create electric vehicles mainly for European markets. Horwin motorcycles and scooters are designed internally by the R&D of Kammersdorf in Austria and built in China, at the company's production site.
From this union was also born the EK3, an electric scooter with rounded lines and a pleasant, vaguely retro design. It is equipped with an infinite number of high-tech systems: CBS combined braking, LED lights, delayed light switch-off function, keyless go, touch-start display, cruise control, reverse gear and anti-theft alarm system.
The electric motor, positioned in the center of the scooter and combined with a chain transmission, has a power of 6.2 kW that pushes the EK3 up to a speed of 95 km/h and accelerates up to 60 km/h in six seconds. Power delivery is managed by the FOC (Field Oriented Control) control system which also balances power and energy consumption. The system recognizes driving conditions and controls the engine to obtain constant performance, optimizing energy savings.
Among the features that most impressed us about this scooter is certainly the acceleration: the 195 Nm of torque can be felt and at traffic lights it is really snappy, also thanks to the prompt response of the gas. Three driving modes help manage the power and limit the speed to 60, 80 and 95 km/h. But performance, as we know, comes at a price in terms of autonomy. Horwin has solved the problem by installing a 2.88 Wh battery pack under the saddle which is made up of two rechargeable and removable batteries. The lithium ion cells are the 18650 from Samsung.
The battery life is 1,000 charge cycles. The standard charging current is 10 A. The charging time is about 4 hours, for a range declared by the manufacturer of about 100 km.
In our test, squeezed well in city and extra-urban traffic, we traveled more than 80 km, often using the cruise control.
Braking is entrusted to the CBS (Combined Braking System) which distributes the braking force between the front and rear brake discs. The EK3 is full of technological features such as LED lights or the remote control key thanks to which it is possible to start, turn off and immobilize the scooter without having to insert the key. Obviously, the anti-theft system can also be activated and deactivated with the remote control key. In the glove compartment there is a USB socket that allows you to charge your smartphone or other devices.
Excellent stability up to 50/60 km/h, only fair at higher speeds.
The display is unique and innovative, in addition to showing all the information (current speed, cruise control, battery level, autonomy, etc.) it has an original feature: when you slide your finger on the touch-start strip at the bottom of the display, you can start the engine.
The EK3 is available in four colors: white, black, gray and red and is distributed exclusively for the Italian market by Vent. It has a retail price of €4,690 ex-works.
