ANZAC Day commemorates the anniversary of the first major military action by Australian and New Zealand forces during WWI. There are ceremonies in most towns and suburbs on 25 April each year. VK radio amateurs have an informal custom of operating AM and CW only as the main modes used for radio communication during WWII. It was a nice day so I went out portable with a homebrew 5w AM crystal controlled transceiver with a tunable superhet receiver.
The crystal controlled transmitter is similar to the 'Grenade' design used by shortwave broadcast pirates just below 7 MHz. Details on various websites.
The receiver is similar to a 160m unit described by VK3XU. Has NE602 front end, ceramic filter, MK484 IF amp/detector and LM386 audio amp. I've done a previous video describing it in detail when I had it on 160m (later converted to 40m for use in this transceiver). VK3XU circuit here: https://web.archive.org/web/202011062...
